MTLEY CRE's MARS: 'The Doubters Can See Me Live And Get Their A** Kicked By My Playing'
June 25, 2008MTLEY CRE's Mick Mars and BUCKCHERRY's Keith Nelson recently sat down with Guitar World magazine to discuss the upcoming "Cre Fest" summer tour, their respective bands and the state of the music industry. Mars also addressed his health, specifically in regards to his battle with ankylosing spondylitis, the degenerative bone disease from which he suffers.
"I always have to prove myself," he tells Guitar World. "I've been dead twice according to rumor. And there's always stuff like, 'Mick has to be carried onstage,' or 'Mick has to play in a wheelchair.' It's all garbage. This thing that I have, I don't call it a disease; I call it an inconvenience. And the doubters can come and see me live and get their ass kicked by my playing."
Mars has also teamed up with Guitar World Tabs for a contest to find the guitarist who can perform the best version of the new MTLEY CRE single, "Saints of Los Angeles". The winner will be chosen by Mick himself, and will receive a brand-new, autographed Cre Fest Fender Stratocaster guitar. Three runners-up will win autographed copies of the "Saints of Los Angeles" CD. In addition, Guitar World Tabs has posted an official transcription of the song "Saints of Los Angeles".
Contest details and "Saints of Los Angeles" transcription can be found at Guitar World Tabs.
The full interview with Mick Mars and Keith Nelson appears in the October issue of Guitar World magazine, on sale July 29.
